After completing your Level 2, you can progress to the VetSkill VTEC Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming or begin working as a grooming assistant.

What you’ll study

You’ll build a strong foundation across the essential areas of dog grooming, including:

  • Health, Safety and Legislation for the Canine Grooming Environment

  • Introduction to Health and Welfare for the Dog Grooming Assistant

  • Introduction to Canine First Aid

  • Canine Behaviour, Handling and Restraint Techniques

  • Biosecurity and Maintenance for Canine Grooming

  • Introduction to Customer Service and Sales

  • Foundations of Canine Grooming

These units give you the knowledge and confidence to work safely, professionally, and compassionately with dogs and their owners.

Your course includes 30 days of practical training, 8:45am–3pm, in a small, supportive group. You’ll prepare for a multiple‑choice test and gain the hands‑on skills that employers and clients look for.

  • During your how to prepare dogs for styling

  • Develop essential clipping and scissoring techniques

  • Independently groom a minimum of 30 dogs

  • Work one‑to‑one with an experienced tutor

  • Use modern, industry‑standard equipment and techniques

You’ll also receive a starter scissor set to use throughout the course — and keep afterwards — plus access to all tools and equipment you need.

Your training takes place at Hardwick Hounds or Best Friends, modern, fully equipped salons with a large and varied client bases. You’ll gain real‑life experience working alongside the team, helping you build confidence, speed, and professional habits from the very beginning.

Once we receive your application, we’ll let you know if we can offer you a place and confirm available dates. To secure your place, a £500 non‑refundable deposit is required. You can pay in full or choose a payment plan (subject to our terms and conditions).
